GNT #109: Get More Strategic, Actionable ChatGPT Responses (Part 2)
Feb 27, 2025read time: 2.5 minutes
Last week, was all about clarity. Now, let’s go deeper.
Last week, we kicked off this 3-part series on ChatGPT prompt frameworks - simple structures that help you get better, clearer, and more useful responses.
We started with 2 prompt frameworks:
- R-T-F (Role, Task, Format): To tell ChatGPT exactly who it should be, what it should do, and how it should respond.
- T-A-G (Task, Action, Goal): To clearly define your task, action steps, and end goal so ChatGPT can provide more precise answers.
I heard from many of you who tested these frameworks out, and the feedback was awesome! Someone said his ChatGPT results were 10x more relevant, and others found that just a little extra structure helped spark new ideas they hadn't considered before.
This week, we’re building on that foundation.
The next two frameworks will help you get more strategic, action-oriented responses, so you don’t just get answers but clear, step-by-step guidance that moves you forward.
Let’s dig in.
p.s. Don't have time to dig into this now? Save it in a folder or notes page for later!
Framework 3: B-A-B (Before, After, Bridge)
What it does:
This framework helps ChatGPT give you a step-by-step plan by focusing on transformation:
- Where you are now (Before)
- Where you want to go (After)
- The steps to get there (Bridge)
How to use it:
"Before: [CURRENT CHALLENGE]. After: [DESIRED RESULT & TIMEFRAME]. Bridge: Outline a step-by-step plan to get there."
Why it works:
Most prompts tell ChatGPT what you want, but they don’t give it enough context or a clear end goal. With B-A-B, ChatGPT focuses on the transformation process, not just isolated ideas.
Best for:
- Fixing underperforming areas
- Making strategic shifts
- Learning new skills
Example:
Pro tip:
The stronger your ‘Before’ and ‘After,’ the better the ‘Bridge.’
Instead of saying, “I want more email subscribers,” say: “I want to reach 500 engaged email subscribers in six months, with an open rate above 35%.”
Now your prompt is clear, measurable, and action-focused.
Framework 4: C-A-R-E (Context, Action, Result, Example)
What it does:
This framework helps ChatGPT provide more grounded, practical answers by forcing it to consider:
- Context: Who you are or what situation you're in.
- Action: What you want to achieve.
- Result: The desired outcome.
- Example: A real-world reference to base the answer on.
How to use it:
"We are [CONTEXT]. Suggest [ACTION] that achieves [RESULT] and reference [EXAMPLE] for inspiration."
Why it works:
When ChatGPT lacks context, it defaults to generic advice. By giving it a real-world reference and a specific result, you make its answers more practical and directly useful.
Best for:
- Crafting marketing or sales messaging
- Researching competitors
- Brainstorming new ideas
Example:
Pro tip:
The Example part of this framework is a game changer.
Adding a brand, strategy, or industry-specific reference helps ChatGPT match its response to something you already admire. Try isolating and changing only the example part and see how the results change.
Takeaway
Last week, we focused on clarity and structure in your prompts.
This week, we focus on depth and strategy.
Try this:
- Pick a new challenge
- Run it through B-A-B (Before, After, Bridge) or C-A-R-E (Context, Action, Result, Example)
- See how ChatGPT's responses change.
Then let me know how it went!
Next week we'll be wrapping up the series with two final frameworks - one to help ChatGPT create detailed, step-by-step action plans, and another to turn it into a learning engine that evolves with you.
Here's to your next step forward. See you next week!
